This building was the Costa Vida’s franchise entry into the Portland metropolitan area market. Costa Vida has a beach flair in their marketing materials, and their corporate interior feel is as a beach shack offering quality food inspired by Mexican cuisine. We sought to capitalize on that vibe by adding site constructed exterior shutters stained in multi-hued whitewashed colors adjacent to all openings. We also provided an overhead garage door with glass panels that can be opened in nice weather, allowing the interior dining area to spill out onto the exterior patio. The beach theme was extended to the interior where a typical 2×4 lay-in grid ceiling was replaced with wood slats in a wave pattern, highlighted by a period surf board floating overhead. Sound was addressed with tectum panels between the roof trusses. Everything above grid level was painted out black, furthering the floating feel of the natural wood slat ceiling and surfboard.
