This location was the first franchise location for the Sacramento-based chain, as well as the first location outside the Sacramento, California, metropolitan area. The franchisee needed a building large enough to house two different restaurant concepts to make the project economically viable. He also wanted a building that would be easily recognizable from a distance, yet straightforward to construct. The corporate entity was looking for interior features that included shelves and niches that could be used to display American Southwest artwork and artifacts, a hallmark of Dos Coyotes restaurants. The site is located in an area of the San Juaquin Valley that has a mild climate nine months of the year, so designing for an outdoor seating area was an important design consideration. Because the building was to house two entirely different restaurant concepts the patio was separated into sections, but will allow patron spillover if one side gets full.
